Ntchisi Man Gets 18Yrs For Attempted Rape, Burglary As Cattle Thief Torched Hands

A man in Ntchisi district has been given a total prison sentence of 18 years for two counts of attempted rape and burglary.




However, he will only spend 10 years imprisonment after the court ruled that the two sentences will run concurrently.




According to Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, the convict Sambani Mtete aged 38 pleaded guilty to both counts of burglary and attempted rape charges which are contrary to Sections 309 and 134 of the Penal Code respectively.




He said First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua sentenced Mtete to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for attempted rape while on burglary has earned him 8 years.




Ntchisi Police PRO recounts that the convict, on the night of August 21, 2015 at Tchite Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasakula in the district, broke into the house of Dorcas Banda with intent to commit felony.




However, before stealing from the house, he began to caress Dorcas who was asleep but his touches awakened her and shouted for help.




“This prompted the convict to run away and left in the house a pair of trouser and a plastic jumbo which contained a bottle of cocacola and his pair of trouser was left in the house because the convict was already undressed in readiness for the act.” Narrates M’bumpha




The convict comes from Tchite Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasakula in Ntchisi.




Meanwhile M’bumpha says a 19-year-old man is in stable condition after angry mob assault and burnt both his hands near to ashes for failure cooperate when caught red-handed with three stolen cattle.




The suspect is currently admitted at Ntchisi District Hospital and police says will answer a charge of theft of cattle soon after discharged from the hospital.




The police officer said the suspect, Josaidi Jeremia stole three cattle on September 7, 2015.  M'bumpha said the suspect stole from the same family just few weeks after he tricked the family to give him K100 thousand.  Sergeant M'bumpha said he tricked the wife of that family that he would like to use that money to pay for police bail of her wife. 




According to Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, the suspect, Josaidi Jeremia has previously been assisting police and that on 30th August this year he led police to recover stolen cattle. However, M’bumpha said the suspect has changed from good to bad after his odd character.
